After a storm

Hail or wind damage? Do these three things.

A good roofer will work alongside your insurance claim, not rush you past it.

1

Stay safe, then document

Stay off the roof. Photograph damage from the ground, plus dented gutters, siding and cars, and note the storm date.

2

Call your insurer

Report the claim promptly. Many policies have deadlines, and some require notice within a year of the storm.

3

Get a free inspection

A local roofer documents the damage before the adjuster visits, then meets the adjuster on site.

Watch for storm chasers. Be cautious with crews that knock after a storm, ask for full payment up front, or offer to “cover your deductible,” which is illegal in several states. Every roofer we match you with works locally.

New roof? Your insurance bill may drop.

Insurers often price newer and impact-rated roofs lower. Compare home insurance in about two minutes.

Roofing FAQ

Before you sign anything.

How many quotes should I get?
Two or three written quotes is the norm. Compare the scope (tear-off, underlayment, ventilation, flashing), the warranty, and the timeline, not just the price.
Repair or replace?
Repairs usually make sense for localized damage on a roof with years left. If an asphalt roof is past about 18 years, has widespread granule loss, or leaks in several spots, replacement is often the better value.
Will insurance pay for a new roof?
If a covered event like hail or wind damaged it, often yes, minus your deductible. Wear and tear isn't covered, and older roofs may be paid at actual cash value.
How long does a replacement take?
Most homes take one to three days on site, after permits and materials arrive.
Is financing available?
Many of our partner roofers offer financing. Ask about it on your quote call.
